Digital Literacy Pathway

Step 2:

I have read the article titled: “Knowing the Difference Between Digital Skills and Digital Literacies, and Teaching Both” I was fascinated by the fact that there is a difference between digital skills and digital literacy, I know this is something we discussed during class before but the only that I would have known that there is a difference between them both was through the doctor’s question and the way she asked the question other than that I would have never known that there was a difference and I feel like most people would think the same way unless they were educated on the topic. I feel like this is something that we all should be educated about as the article highlights and that it should start from a young age during school to enrich the upcoming generations’ knowledge about technology, how it is used and in what matters should be used and the dangers of its usage if there are any in that field. Furthermore, I liked how the article the article defined each aspect and simplified it in a matter that people can easily understand.

After taking a short survey I was able to see some areas of strength and weakness in my digital capabilities. I am very confident and can easily use technology to my advantage when it comes to communicating with people and working with them through online platforms and technology which goes along with knowing my personal identity and being able to be who I am and express myself through technology as well as being in a comfortable space when using technology. I am also able to learn and understand new material and information using technology which helps me attain new information much easier and faster through technology rather than the old traditional ways. I am good at some other aspects such as finding information online and being able to attain sources and information that I want; however, when it comes to very specific and rare information I might hit a dead end sometimes. Using technology as a tool is also a tool that is in my dispense and I do so to create digital work for myself to use such as posts, posters, and even pieces of writings where I use my creativity and digital capabilities to do.

After reading the article about the difference between an aspect being a skill or literacy I found myself better understanding my capabilities. For example, communication and learning are 2 aspects that I am very capable of and might say that I have mastered doing them through technology which mean that I am literate in them and very capable and doing them and know how to use these abilities. While other abilities like using certain tools and finding information I do know how to use them and can comfortably use them; however, there is still some room for improvement and development in these abilities in other words they are not my strength point so they are digital skills that I have and can very improve my skills in this area to get better results and further understand these areas of my online experience and usage of technology.

In conclusion, this survey and article have allowed me to fully understand my digital abilities, my strengths and weaknesses what areas I can improve my skills in in order to be more literate and fully understand what I can do to maximize my benefit from using technology.

step 3:

Through this quick course about digital images I learnt a new part about creating images which I never knew before and got a look on how different pixels create specific colors and how all these pixels put together give us a certain color and picture when all put together as well as know some terminologies when it comes to pictures and images such as mega-pixels and this a skill that I would love ot further enhance and something that really interested me after having no knowledge about.

This course talked about avoiding plagiarism and its importance and how to properly cite information that I attained from websites and books and other platforms. This is an area where i already had a big knowledge background in through a couple of courses that I took at university and wanted to test whether a 30 min course would have the same learning outcome and it did. The course included all the material that I studied for 2 months in just 30 min and elaborated on each aspect in a great way and was explained in a simple matter that would allow anyone to fully achieve the desired learning outcome.

Step 4:

I believe this assignment was a great assignment and helped me get a better look at my skill set and what aspects of my technological abilities I am good at and what areas I need improvement in. In addition, the part where I took the courses was really interesting as it provided me with inspiration on topics and areas where I can further expand my skill set and attain more knowledge to be a more well rounded person and know at least how the gadgets and tools that I use each day function and if for example a problem would occur how I would deal with it or know what the issue is. The only thing that I didn’t like with the assignment was the time that it was assigned, I would have liked to have it earlier in the semester to avoid the increased workload with finals season, other than that it was a really interesting assignment and I actually enjoyed doing it
